Rock Chicks with a Conscience....Rock Chicks with a Conscience....

One of the hottest trends on the catwalks this season, A/W/'11, was Fetish Chic and Gothic Glamour.  Designers that rocked this look such as Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Julien McDonald, Belle Suavage and Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton sent models down the runways wearing layers of black lace,  leather, velvet and fur in every shape and form from fitted skirts and dresses to corsetted tops and belts.

I absolutely adore this look so of course I had to get in on a little bit of the action! I decided to make some headpieces and hairbands that I thought would compliment this dark, cutting edge look very well but in a very wearable way.  However as much as I love the look, I hate the amount of real leather and fur it takes to create the garments.  As a vegetarian I opted to use a leatherette in place of leather. In my opinion it looks just as good and I can have a clear conscience using it as no animals have been harmed. Here are a few of my pieces, I hope you like them..

I started working with leatherete in the summer when I collaborated with Irish Designer Niamh Garry on her debut A/W '11 Collection. I designed and made a small range of headpieces to compliment her Collection which consisted of  a beautiful range of skirts, dresses and tops made from black and white leathers and deep purple, raspberry and navy velvets and satins.  Here are a couple of the pieces that I liked best!
