A Top Hat Tale.....

I absolutely adore Top Hats on women! They can instantly create an aura of power, sophistication, elegance and intrique, depending on the way it is worn and of course, depending on the wearer.  A Top Hat worn by the right lady in the right way is just magic!

Traditionally worn by upper class men from the 18th century upwards Top Hats were never intended to be worn by women, which makes them even more daring and delightful!  However, they were introduced at some stage, it is not clear when, to Cabaret and Striptease acts, worn with Tails and Cane by women entertainers and since then there has been no turning back.  My favourite women who have worn the Top Hat to perfection include the ultra sophisticated Marlene Dietrich, super sexy Dita Von Teese and of course the Divine.... Betty Boop!!

I have made two of my own mini Top Hats so far (below)....one in purple velvet with an elaborate feather, perfect for any Burlesque Ball, and a slightly more demure black and cream printed felt hat with blood red rose which I aptly named after the lovely Marlene herself!
