Turban-Tastic!Turban-Tastic!

Now that it is October and there is an icy cold nip in the air it is time to get out those winter woolies again I am afraid! However, do not fret....you can still remain ultra stylish and chic whilst keeping warm with the help of one of my favourite forms of headwear, that is...the  Turban!

Turbans have long been worn by both men and women since the 17th century, mostly in the Middle East, North Africa and Southwest Asia as a form of Religious and Cultural Identity.  However they were never that common or popular in the Western World. They certainly weren't seen to be fashionable, not until the 1930's/40's and then again in the 70's, when they were worn by the young, hip trendsetters and influential film stars of the time.

Fast Forward to the present day and in 2011 turbans are one of the most trendy accessories in any fashionista's wardrobe and for the last few seasons have been seen again and again walking down the Catwalks. The turban comes in many shapes and forms and can be worn in Summer or Winter. It has been made popular again by many stylish celebrities including  Kate Moss and Jennifer Lopez who can be seen here looking fabulous donning extremely glam metallic turbans that only a few of us mere mortals would get away with wearing!kate-moss-jennifer-lopez-turban

My turbans however are more inspired by those from 30's and 40's worn by the likes of Lana Turner and Greta Garbo. My velvet black turban with red rose and ostrich feather (above) is the perfect accessory for a night of jazz and sipping martinis in a candlelit piano bar. While my funkier purple turban with knot at the front and removable spider brooch will take you from day to night and make you stand out from any crowd for all the right reasons ...

The beautiful photos of my turbans were taken by Halinka Grycka. The stunning make-up was by Daria Maciek Czajka, beautiful model is Roma Mikolajczyk and the fantastic jewellery is by Duygu Lorek. Halinka and Daria work in their own photography studio which specialises in Vintage themed Photoshoots. The studio is aptly named Vintage Atelier and you can check out more of their work on the following link:
